A Gender Training Programme facilitating “Gender mainstreaming” under the Municipal Waste Recycling Program (MWRP) SLCDF programme was held on 9th January 2020 at the Wakwella Training Centre. The event was joined by Government Officials, LA staff, Police Officers, DS Officials, Community Environment Facilitators (CEF) and NGO leaders.
As an organization SLCDF ensures the equality and equity between men and women in its programmes. This endeavour was another attempt from the organization’s part to put emphasis on the equity in benefits, meeting the needs and interests of both women and men, the full and active participation of women in the development process at all levels, with specific attention to decision making by women. The focus and the goal in integrating gender is to affirm that the practical and strategic needs and interests of the focused women and men are met and space is created for their voices in the project.
SLCDF has been able to identify and encourage a number of female beneficiaries who obtained a traditionally male dominated activity / job in the waste management and plastic recycling as a result of the USAID funded Municipal Waste Recycling Program (MWRP).
