“SLCDF signed agreements with four District Network Structures in East and South in developing and implementing poverty reduction and sustainable development strategies“
Diakonia and SLCDF in a partnership of five years will be implementing a District and National level programme on “Strengthening of Civil Society Structures / Networks to engage with GOs / Local authorities / INGOs / Private sector to contribute to sustainable development”. This programme will cover 20 districts in Sri Lanka and community, NGOs and District Networks [DCs] will participate in the implementation. For the first year, six districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle, Jaffna, Kegalle and Kurunegala were selected. Existing and new networks of CBOs and NGOs at community, district and national levels will be strengthened to address rural poverty, social, economic and political issues and promote rights based approach to development.
On 5th April, SLCDF signed the initial agreements with Ampara and Batticaloa District Consortia to implement the programme and the first installment of funds was disbursed to them. On the invitation of SLCDF, the Diakonia Country Representative Mr. Frank Stephan and the Programme Officer Mr. M. Murugaverl too participated. The agreements were signed in the District Consortia offices in both Ampara and Batticaloa districts by the office bearers in the presence of their member organizations. Executive Director of SLCDF Mr. T.L. Wijetunga and Senior Programme Officer Mr. A. Sornalingam explained the programme in detail.
On the following day, signed two more agreements with Kurunegala and Kegalle District Consortia at their DC office premises in Kurunegala and Kegalle. Similarly, the representatives of the member organizations of the respective DCs participated at these events and the ED, Mr. T.L. Wijetunga and the Programme and Administrative Officer, Mr. Sanath Jayatunga explained the programme.
SLCDF looks forward to signing the two balance agreements with Jaffna and Galle District Consortia in the near future.
