SLCDF steps forward to provide dry rations for 1800 families in 18 districts

With the intention of contributing and providing aid for the public in distress due to the curfew that has been placed in order to control the outbreak of the Covid – 19 pandemic, SLCDF as a responsible organization has taken the initiative to distribute dry rations for 1800 families from its own resources.

The programme spans throughout 18 districts and is set to reach its completion by 5th April, 2020. This will be spearheaded and implemented by the District Consortia of NGOs in the respective districts. Each dry ration parcel includes items worth of Rs. 1000/- and the selection criteria for the programme included families that depend on daily wage as a income source; elderly; families with more members; women headed families; families with persons with disabilities; pregnant and lactating mothers.

The districts identified to provide assistance are Ampara, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Galle, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kilinochchi, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Matara, Moneragala, Mullaitivu, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Ratnapura and Gampaha, where SLCDF is currently implementing programmes.

The programme is implemented with the support of the government officials in the above districts. SLCDF staff in districts provide their utmost cooperation at field level during in this trying period with curfew imposed islandwide, while the head office staff in are attending to all logistics working from home as advised by the State.
