An agreement signing ceremony commemorating the SLCDF and European Union (EU) partnership for a 3 year project “Let the Women Decide the Margin” was held on the 10th of December 2019. The event was joined by the EU ambassador and officials from all other project partnering organizations like Centre for Women’s Research (CENW0R), Community Strength Development Foundation (CSDF), Sri Lanka College of Journalism, Rajarata Praja Kendraya (RPK), and Federation of Social Development Organizations (FOSDOO).
This project aims to Mobilize, organize and empower the most marginalized groups of women: female sex workers (FSWs), deserted women (DW), and single women (SW), in the selected DS Divisions in Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Matara, Gampaha and Colombo Districts to realize their socio-economic and political rights, and specifically their Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), and stand against discriminations towards them.
Throughout the implementation period the project is expected to reach out to approximately 3,500 deserted women and single women, 5,000 sex workers, 140 Civil Society Organizations, 140 facilitators established within CSOs, 250 peer educators working with 5,000 sex workers, 20 facilitators as trainers to train female sex workers and peer educators, 100 media personnel, 75 new participants as journalists, 250 marginalized women for alternative livelihood models and 750 employed, 350 Key government sector officials (Administrative bodies), Officers at the women and child units, Social Welfare Officers, Officers of the Women and Child desks of Police stations, Mithuru Piyasa staff and the staff in psychiatrist units, Samurdhi officers, Economic Development Officers and staff of the sexually transmitted diseases units in District Hospitals of the seven districts.
This project marks a special step in the EU – SLCDF ongoing partnership as this is the second project that SLCDF will be implementing with EU donor funding.
