For twenty five years SLCDF has been working with the Canadian NGO, Cardinal Leger and His Endeavours (CLO). The last was a joint project along with Development and Peace completed in 2011. It was a two year project to develop the capacity of SLCDF staff and NGO network and implement participatory integrated district development programmes (PIDDP) in 7 districts. The focus of the PIDDPs was through community level activities to improve food security of rural poor, prevent environmental degradation, promote and practise environment friendly agriculture and livelihoods, encourage appropriate technology for value addition and improve marketing networks and productivity including quality assurance and improved presentation of products.

These PIDDP programmes were implemented with 51 NGOs and 7 District Consortia of NGOs (DCs) in Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Monaragala, Puttalam and Polonnaruwa districts and Plantation sector. The project was designed with considerable participation of a network of CBOs, NGOs and DCs with women’s participation.

The project reached over 1,150 households with an enhanced network of resources that can be sustained in large measure: credit that will revolve, improving capacities to address needs at the local level. Total assisted were 1150 participants (939 Female – 82%, Male 221 – 18%) through this project. Further, conducted capacity building programmes (training & awareness creation) involving 565 participants. The project has achieved the intended results with activities been monitored through the existing three-tier monitoring system assuring sustainability.
