Galle SWM participated in International Coastal Cleanup Day

After the Cleaning campaign

To commemorate the International Coastal Cleanup Day, a cleaning campaign (Self Help) was organized in Galle District by Sri Lanka Centre for Development Facilitation under USAID/ Development Innovations Group funded Municipal Waste Recycling Programme (MWRP) on 15th September 2018.

The beaches and areas surrounding the mouth of Gin Ganga in Galle and three other places in either side of the Gin Ganga River were the target locations for cleaning.

The campaign was led by Swashakthi Sanwardana Padanama and over 40 persons participated including four other organizations who are partners of the SWM project in Galle- Kantha Arthika Sanwardena Padanama in Baddegama, “Shakthi” Mau Saukya Samajaya and Isuru Kirigovi Sanvidanaya in Wakwella area and Hikkaduwa Sahabageethwa Sanwardena Padanama.

At this cleaning campaign, 29 bags of waste had been collected, mainly PET bottles and plastic materials, and other garbage as well. Resource collectors of the SWM project collected plastics while other non-recyclable material was has been collected by the Pradeshiya Sabha of Bope Poddala.
