Galle and Kilinochchi youth stepping forward to continue the youth programme in 2018

The final year of the pilot project ‘Crossing Boundaries – Youth Groups in Sri Lanka’ funded by HELVETAS Swiss Inter-cooperation was initiated with having youth selection workshop and orientation programme with the aim of uplifting the talents and skills of youth.
Three workshops to select youth for 2018 youth programme were held during February and March, 2018 in Galle, Batticaloa and Kilinochchi districts. Altogether around 85 youth participated in these three workshops.
In order to assess the skills in leadership, decision making and problem solving, different activities were held for all youth with the aim of further enhancing and boosting their in-built talents. The active participation by all youngsters for the workshop showcased their enthusiasm in learning a new skill.
In the three districts, following the workshop programme orientation for all stakeholders agreements between SLCDF and respective organizations – Prajashakthi Sanwardene Padanama Yakkalamulla in Galle, OISD in Kilinochchi and INAYAM in Batticaloa were signed. The Steering Committee members, officials of the 3 organizations and government officers too were present at these events. The content and objectives of the programme and the agreement were explained by the officials of SLCDF.
It is hoped to start youth training programme on conflict management and peace reconciliation immediately and continue through April, 2018.
