Flood Relief Aid Distributed in Koralai Pattu South

Due to heavy rains that flooding in the remote villages of Batticaloa, in Koralai Pattu South, families were urgently in need of aid and support. Upon the request from the Batticaloa DC for relief aid SLCDF in partnership with one of their prime donors, Palmera Projects took the initiative to mobilise their resources in order reach out to aid approximately 565 families with dry rations worth over Rs. 1.7 million. The beneficiaries are from villages where all their paddy fields and cultivations have been destroyed.

All these families are currently living in welfare centres and facing difficulties to meet everyone’s urgent requirements. SLCDF worked with a network of local agencies, who were present on the ground and able to respond quickly in times such as these. As soon as the funds were raised SLCDF mobilized all available resources to package and deploy the dry rations and all other necessary aid.

Moving forward SLCDF will also provide a select 150 families with a cash grant of approximately Rs. 1.5 million in total for livelihood development.

It is with utmost pleasure that we from SLCDF report that Palmera Projects, one of our prime donors, has succeeded in raising the necessary funds for the project within the span of 1 week learning of the situation in most districts of the North, East, North Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces of Sri Lanka from early in the afternoon of 30th November 2019. The funds were raised and reached its target through the donations of 103 donors.
