Earth Day commemorated in a great way in Galle

To commemorate the World Earth Day, a cleaning campaign (Self Help) was organized in Galle District by Sri Lanka Centre for Development Facilitation under USAID/ Development Innovations Group funded Municipal Waste Recycling Programme ( MWRP) on 22nd April 2018.

The theme this year is “End Plastic Pollution”. The beaches and areas surrounding the mouth of Gin Ganga and other five places either side of the Gin Ganga River were the target locations for cleaning.

The campaign of the River mouth of the Gin Ganga in Gintota was led by Swashakthi Sanwardana Padanama and over 60 participants participated. Mr. A. U. Welaratne, Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries, Livestock and Development, Environment, Rural Development, Power and Rural & Plantation Infrastructure Development, Southern Province also participated with community at the evacuation campaign.

Sri Lanka Janashakthi Sanwardana Padanama too conducted a campaign at Nagoda Town and Bridge Area as well as school ground close to the Gin River with the support of Local Authority staff, Public Health Inspectors (PHI), Police officials and Divisional Secretariat officials. 45 people participated at the Nagoda Campaign.

Four other organizations too participated in their respective locations in Galle, Kantha Arthika Sanwardena Padanama in Baddegama, “Shakthi” Mau Saukya Samajaya and Isuru Kirigovi Sanvidanaya in Wakwella area and Hikkaduwa Sahabageethwa Sanwardena Padanama.
