The Government of Sri Lanka has announced several proposals in its Budget 2018 aimed at reviving the economy of the war affected Northern Province. One of the key proposals of this Budget is, support for selected small industries by producer co-operatives in the Northern Province with the allocation of 1 billion Sri Lankan Rupees. Under the project “Collective Engagement for Sustainable Growth of Vulnerable Communities” the donor agency Diakonia provided a funding of Rs. 1,000,000 to help develop 25 proposals for 25 cooperatives in the 5 districts of Northern Province. A non-profit organization named Tech Ceylon Social Ventures Guarantee Ltd came forward in helping these cooperatives develop their proposals.
After months of hard work Tech Ceylon has developed 25 proposals which have been approved by the government for funding. Some of the cooperatives have started utilizing the government funds to upgrade their organization buildings! Some of the images attached depict the building construction process.
