“Crossing Boundaries – Youth Groups in Sri Lanka” Exchange Programme concluded in Batticaloa successfully

The three year youth programme supported by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is coming to a close this December. The enthusiastic youth from Galle and Kilinochchi districts met with their counterparts in Batticaloa. With coordinator and district consortium member 3 girls and 7 boys participated from Galle while with the coordinator of Kilinochchi 3 girls and 6 boys travelled to Batticaloa. The youth exchange programme which taken place from September 27th to 30th was hosted by 4 girls and 12 boys in Batticaloa.
Many activities were planned and significant were the sports, discussion on peace and reconciliation with religious leaders, visiting the religious institutions and campfire. Also tree planting campaign at Valaichenai General Hospital premises including a shramadana where the management of the hospital too participated and 6 plants were planted. On the final day they even had a joyous boat ride down the White House lagoon before the two visiting groups departed with beautiful memories to linger with them.
The staff of both Helvetas and SLCDF too traveled to Batticaloa to observe the programme which is concluding successfully. Similar exchange programmes were already held in the two districts of Galle and Kilinochchi with this year’s batch of 48 youth.
