The DIG/MWRP field staff of the USAID funded Municipal Waste Recycling Programme in Galle on the 11th of October 2019, joined hands in engaging in an exposure visit to Balangoda Solid Waste Management Centre and selected schools practicing the 3R system in the surrounding area. A total of 43 personnel including Community Environment Facilitators, NGO leaders and Local Authority staff of Bope-Poddala and Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha were joined by the Galle field office staff on this exposure visit.

The teams successfully completed observations of AL Minnara Muslim College, Bope-Poddala and Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha where there 3R system has been effectively implemented.

The programme included a presentation done by the officer of Balangoda Municipal Council heading the project to educate and encourage on the importance of the wastage sorting process and recycling, which was followed by a speech from the Chairman of Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, without whom the project would not have been put into action, and a further presentation conducted by Public Health Inspector (PHI) officer detailing the processes involved in implementing the programme and benefits of it.
