An agreement was signed for Building sustainable farms and communities for coastal aquaculture in Sri Lanka’ project with Kandekuliya Praja Sanwardana Sanvidanaya.

With funding assistance of Stichting Gilles – Belgium, and technical support from National Aquatic and Research Agency (NARA), SLCDF started Building sustainable farms and communities for coastal aquaculture in Sri Lanka’ in Kandekuliya in Puttalam District. In this project an important step was to form a Community Based Organization and an agreement was signed with it on 3rd March 2015 at Kandekuliya.
Dr.Tim Dejager, Consultant to the projet was present at this event and Chairman, Prof. T.S.G. Fonseka, of National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) and Executive Director of SLCDF Mr. Tissa Wijetunga, and Dr. Palitha Kithsiri, and Dr. Vasantha Pahalawelaarachchi, Mr. Lalith Amaralal from NARA also participated. Mr. Shan Meemanage of Tropical Shellfish Pvt. also joined on this occation. The women and men participating in the oyster aquaculture project in Kandakuliya and Chairman and Secretary of Puttalam District Consortium also participated.
The project has also brought in support from the local community based organizations, the Representatives from Kalpitiya Police Station and the a Representative from the Sri Lanka Navy .
The oysters are growing well and we are now awaiting the opportunity of harvesting them.
